The life of the Roma people living in Albania is very hard. Unemployment, shortage of food, lack of education, women and children trafficking is at high levels in Roma community.
Nearly 2,000 inhabitants live in rural areas in Grabiani community, 20 % of them belonging to Roma people. Families of this community have as property or in use a small area of cultivated land and little experience in small farming. The goal of this project is to help the Roma community in Grabiani overcome poverty, discrimination and to integrate in community.
Key project objectives are to increase the family nutrition and income of Roma families through donation of goats and providing opportunities for better integration of Roma families in community. 60 Alpine pure breed goats will be distributed to 20 farmer’s families, assisting a total of 40 Roma farmer’s families, including passing on the gift.
The project provides all beneficiary farmers with training, technical assistance, agriculture supplies to support the integration of this community in society, improve the social and nutrition status of family. The farmers are trained in social and technical issues, starting and developing family farms and improving family nutrition and income. Actually 13 Roma farmer’s families have been supported with 40 Alpine dairy goats.
