Integrated Dairy Development Project, funded from Heifer Netherlands, has supported activities in Lushnja, Berati and Fieri communities. 231 original Holstein and Brown Swiss heifers are donated to farmer’s families, while 160 Pass on the Gift heifers are donated to new families by their farmer’s community.
This new project (IDDP Phase IV) supports the further activities of active projects in Albania. The project focuses on supporting existing and establishing new successful farmer’s groups and farmers associations, extend capacity building of existing farmer’s associations and enhance technical and management skills of farmers. The project provides adequate training, education, and technical assistance for association members involved on livestock training and extension service. The activities aim at increase of the effectiveness of small dairy farm in Albania through the design and demonstration of new appropriate type of stable, manure management, hay making and milking cows.
Overall project objectives are:
– To support farmer associations and farmer’s groups to raise their capacity building and become self-reliant and to become able to manage the projects by themselves.
– To enhance technical and management skills of farmer’s families involved in the project.
– To increase sustainability of small scale farms using advanced technology, having better conditions in the farms and achieving higher productivity from cows.
